here's a new one

purchased a couple items from seller whose listing stated item located in Ohio. When I paid, I was charged 6.25% sales for Illinois (where I live). Got items today, sent from Ohio. I sent seller an e-mail asking why - will let you know what happens - I really hope this isn't just another way to get more $$|||You did not look at the Shipping and Payments Tab Seller charges sales tax in multiple states. Using the above link looks like 24 different States Seller collects sales tax for items shipped to the following states: State Sales Tax Rate Arizona (AZ) 5.600 % California (CA) 7.250 % Connecticut (CT) 6.000 % Florida (FL) 6.000 % Georgia (GA) 4.000 % Illinois (IL) 6.250 % Iowa (IA) 5.000 % Kansas (KS) 5.300 % Kentucky (KY) 6.000 % Massachusetts (MA) 5.000 % Michigan (MI) 6.000 % Minnesota (MN) 6.500 % Missouri (MO) 4.230 % New Jersey (NJ) 6.000 % New York (NY) 8.380 % North Carolina (NC) 7.000 % Ohio (OH) 6.250 % Pennsylvania (PA) 6.000 % Tennessee (TN) 9.250 % Texas (TX) 6.250 % Vermont (VT) 5.000 % Virginia (VA) 4.500 % Washington (WA) 6.500 % Wisconsin (WI) 5.000 % If I had to guess, they have Brick and Mortal locations in each of these States and are therefore required to collect the sales tax for those StatesDelivery Confirmation is confirmation of delivery, not tracking.|||they have Brick and Mortal locations Nothing is certain save Death and Taxes. Brilliant typo, nowibuystuff!|||Item number? If the seller has a presence in your state, they can charge sales tax.||||||Oddly enough, the 2 responses prior to mine didn't show when I responded. They are a couple of hours older than mine though. Weird.|||aHA - you are right. I am curious, though, as to the amount of tax they charge -our tax here in Illinois (lucky us) is over 10% which is what I would pay at a store (thats why I buy so much on eBay) but the tax charged was only 6.25%. Can someone explain? Always enjoy your helpful comments - learn a lot here. thanks|||I see the difference in Wisconsins sales tax and Minnesotas as well. I believe the difference is because a certain percentage goes to the state and another percentage goes to a county. Here is Wi. the state gets 5% (as your seller charges) and the county you bought in gets the other 1/2%. Your seller appears to be just charging the states percentage of tax and doesn't file county since he doesn't physically sell in your county.|||
